Harrisburg International Airport To Add $1 a Day To Rental Fees

April 04, 2007

The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority has ordered a $1 a day rental-car fee increase at Harrisburg International Airport in order to help repay bonds that financed a $240 million terminal opened in 2004, writes The Patriot News.

The car-rental fee only affects airport travelers and does not apply to vehicle-rental operations off of airport property.

In addition to rental fees, other charges are also being increased involving what airlines pay to rent terminal space, use a gate, park, and fuel their aircraft. These increases in airline fees average about 6 percent across the board, according to The Patriot News.

The move comes as a result of the poor revenues reported the previous year. Though net revenue at the airport exceeded projections, overall revenue was down about 2 percent, and according to airport spokesmen, the airport cannot afford to fall short of budget since they are already trying to repay the bonds on the $240 million terminal.

The $1 rental-fees are expected to generate $1.2 million by the year’s end.
