Orlando Airport to Allow More On-Site Operations

June 13, 2007

Orlando International Airport (OIA) will soon allow more car rental companies to operate on-site, near the baggage claim area – which could mean higher profits for the airport and lower fares for customers, WFTV in Orlando reports.
Last year, OIA generated $50 million in revenue from car rental operations.

Currently, five rental car companies are permitted to do business on-airport, while 15 other companies operate off-site and shuttle their customers to the airport.

In a year and a half, when the current lease with the on-site companies expires, travelers will see more counter space for additional rental car companies to fill.

There was no word on when OIA officials will review bids from car rental firms interested in doing business on airport property.
